I've got a victor stream now as well as my plextalk pocket which I got replaced when it got broken. Does anyone know if I can change the tone of the text to speech voice, or just the speed and the volume? Also, why does it say that I only have one book on my bookshelf when I have 2 on there, can I fix this in anyway? Thanks for any help.
Do you mean the pitch of the voice? If so, yes you can change the pitch. When you are playing a text or daisy book, keep on pressing the round button until it says pitch. If you mean the tone of the voice, no, you cannot change the tone of the speech. However, you can change the person of the text-to-speech. If I remember correctly, the default person is Samantha; you can change it to Tom if you'd like. To do this, press the seven key until it says language, then press the six key to switch the voice and then the pound key to confirm your selection. In terms of the number of the books, well, it depends on which bookshelf you're in. For example, if you are in the music bookshelf, the VR is always going to say that you have one book even though you may have multiple folders. Make sure that you did transfer the book into the correct folder and not to the root directory. The VR is particular about which format goes where. Hope this helps!
If you are running version 3 of the stream firmware, you don't need to do all the steps above to change the voice of the text to speech. Simply press and hold the number 7 for about 5 seconds. The Stream will then announce the name of the voice. If you are running an earlier version of the firmware, you will only have 1 voice to choose from. If this is the case, I suggest you download the upgrade, since, afterall, it's free.
Without knowing which bookshelf you are trying to add to, it's imposible to determine the problem you are having. As pointed out in the post above, in the music book shelf, you can only have one book. If you are trying to add books to the DTB book shelf, you will need to creat a separate folder for each book on the SD card within the DTB bookshelf. Good luck.
Fuster cluck is right. I forgot about just holding down the seven key. Great point, fuster cluck!
regarding your books, it could be that you've copy and pace a foulder that contain of two books in to a bookshelf, for example, if you pace a foulder to a 'audio book', which is (daisy book) for example, it might only appear as one book. try to press 8 to see what is in it, you might well fine them both in a same foulder.
thats the only thing i can think why it dind't work for your bookshelf. remember, if it is purely a mp3 format, it will appear as other book, only daisy format will appear is audio book format. and as other posters suggested, for music, only will have one book, and thats your entire music foulder.
ones you get grip of the structure, it is pretty strate forward to use. but it may need some time to figure it out.
That's why I like to use the included Stream Companion software. If you're copying talking books, not only will it automatically unzip all the book files but it'll create the necessary separate folders for each book. It can transfer Audible book files as well, but then you don't have to create separate folders. In fact I think they recommend that you don't do that.
it should creates its own foulder ones you incert your sd card to the unit anyway. maybe not all of the foulder, but i'm sure, it does creates it own foulders as what go where. but if you are someone using copy and pace from your computer to the sd card, there's where you need to know which foulder you put in to, and where you want it to be.
personally, i don't use the companion software that much, because i don't like to connect the unit to my computer, much prefer do it with the sd card way, but that is just my own persional prefference
No that isn't what I meant. Yes the Stream creates the bookshelf folders when you first insert the card, but then you'd have to create separate folders within, let's say the $VRDTB folder, for each book. But the Stream Companion software will create separate folders within the talking books folder for each book.
I've got my victor stream sorted out now. Thanks for all the responses though.
Season, just in case you want to try the Companion software, you can use it without connecting the Stream to the computer. You can just use your SD card and the companion software works just the same as if the Stream is connected. I do it all the time because the transfer is faster directly to the card than it is with the Stream connected.
Any one knows why they don't reckomend audible being transferred directly. It takes so much fucking time with the audible manager
I do that all the time. I don't even use Audible Manager. The only time I even bother with Audible Manager is to activate a new card. I use Stream Companion for everything else and no problems.
hmm, good suggestion Time Traveling Bunny, there're way to do it i guess, and absolutely agree on the speed transfering using the streme itself, and SD card.
i've no problem with audible, don't like to use audible manager at all, unless for downloading from audible. but i guess, the first time, you need to connect vr to edtivate something? ones that is done, it is no problem at all.
note for audible though, make sure you don't download the best quality far, or the .aax file, cause the stremes aint reckonize the format, so, stick with the second best quality.
Do you have to put all mp3 files in the VR Music folder?
To poster 14. Nope! You can put them in others or podcast folder, but if they are music mp3 files, you probably want to put them in the music folder so that you can control the bass level etc. If you have other mp3 files, such as podcast or movie sounds, you might want to put them in the podcast folder so that you can navigate through the file via the time and/or percentage increments, something you cannot do in music folder.
Either that, or if they're mp3 books that consist of a bunch of mp3 files, you may want to load them in the other books folder, since it will automatically go from file to file and mark your exact place. I'm not sure if the podcasts folder allows this.
i like the stream
